The British designer grew up in Sunderland, England, and studied at Newcastle Polytechnic. Following roles at Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, she was appointed Creative Director of Joseph in 2009, Creative Director of Lacoste in 2018, and Creative Director of Carven in February 2023. Trotter is celebrated for her meticulous approach to craft and ability to draw inspiration from real life.

In December 2024, Louise Trotter was appointed Creative Director of Bottega Veneta, with her tenure beginning at the end of January 2025. Her first collection for Bottega Veneta will be presented during Milan Fashion Week in September.
