During COP16, Kering became the first company globally to adopt science-based targets for land and freshwater, advancing its commitment to biodiversity after participating in a year-long pilot with the Science Based Targets Network.
Announced during COP16 on October 30th, Kering has set and adopted science-based targets for nature as the next important step to complement and enhance the Group’s long-standing efforts to protect and restore biodiversity. The announcement follows Kering’s participation in the Science Based Targets Network’s (SBTN) year-long corporate pilot, with the Group becoming the first-ever company in the fashion industry and across all sectors globally to adopt both land and freshwater science-based targets for nature.
Encompassing the Group’s direct operations, including Kering-owned tanneries and factories and upstream suppliers, its first freshwater quantity target initially focuses on the Arno basin in Tuscany, where most of the Group’s tanneries and supplier tanneries are located. This basin equals a significant percentage of the Group’s water use across its supply chain. Kering’s science-based targets to address its impact on land covers the same scopes and includes targets to address no conversion of natural ecosystems, to reduce its land footprint, and to engage in materially relevant landscape initiatives.
