Stella McCartney's pledge for our climate

NEWS DD Stella McCartney's pledge for our climate.jpg

Tackling climate change and reducing our footprint one meal at a time: the latest goal of Stella McCartney. Launched on 8 September, Stella is running the campaign in tandem with the McCartney family and the British Prime Minister’s Climate Advisor, Greg Barker. Over the next ten days, the opportunity is open to all to get involved.

    One meal at a time
Climate change is seasoned by many sources, our meat consumption being one of them, serving up 14.5% of global carbon emissions alone. Rethinking our daily routines will uncover real solutions to the challenge of our generation: climate change. This is what Stella McCartney is putting on the table with her simple but effective idea, 1 day a week you go meat-free. When we take on the challenge at a day-to-day level, reducing our emissions becomes more palatable. But MFM Climate Pledge is just a taster of what is to come, with the UN’s grand recipe for change to be finalised in December 2015.

    Run up to the Summit
Before we arrive at the 2015 global treaty, the steps to a solution are under construction. Momentum is currently building up ahead of the next gathering, the UN Climate Summmit. Kicking off on 23 September, it will be the first time since 2009 that the world’s Heads of State will come together to discuss the challenge of our climate. And so, the aim for the next ten days is to reach as many MFM Climate Pledges as possible. Then to New York, where results of the pledge will be presented at the UN Climate Summit by Greg Barker,

“GIVING UP MEAT ONE DAY A WEEK IS MORE THAN JUST A SYMBOLIC ACT AND, IF ENOUGH OF US DO IT, WILL SEND A VERY POWERFUL AND LOUD MESSAGE TO WORLD LEADERS. MEAT PRODUCTION IS AN INCREASINGLY LARGE CONTRIBUTOR TO DANGEROUS CLIMATE CHANGE SO COMING TOGETHER LIKE THIS MAY HAVE A SMALL BUT VERY REAL IMPACT."
