In a world first, David Lynch is designing and installing eleven unique display windows exclusively for Galeries Lafayette on the theme of “Machines, Abstraction and Women”, along with a rare exhibit called “I See Myself” in the gallery of the Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussman in Paris. From September 8 to October 3, David Lynch will show a series of lithographs and set up an actual movie theater showing a selection of his shorts and clips, all according to his layout. The exhibit will provide an opportunity to explore David Lynch’s singular, fantastic universe and discover the different facets of his richly varied work. The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, September 8, from 8:30pm to 11:00pm, and will be attended by the artist himself. At the end of November 2009, on the occasion of the International Day for the elimination of violence towards women, the works by David Lynch will be sold at auction by Christie’s, to benefit the actions of the PPR Corporate Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights. Created in January 2009, the PPR Corporate Foundation aims to fight against violence towards women and empower women to contribute to their own development. It supports awareness-raising campaigns on women’s rights and solidarity projects in partnership with local and international NGOs. The Foundation also fights against the economic marginalisation of women by promoting their integration into the workforce and facilitating their access to micro-credit financing. The funds collected will be entirely devoted to the carrying out of a project to the benefit of women in France. David Lynch: « I am very happy to see that the eleven vitrines designed for Galeries Lafayette and titled Machines, abstraction and women will be auctionned of by Christie’s for the charity of PPR foundation for the dignity and the rights of women. » Contacts Galeries Lafayette Corporate Communications Department Aziza Bouster / Raphaëlle Rouyère abouster@galerieslafayette.com rrouyere@galerieslafayette.com 01 42 82 88 26 / 01 42 82 83 79 PPR Foundation PPR Press Office Charlotte Judet / Cindy Germanaud cjudet@ppr.com / cgermanaud@ppr.com 01 45 64 65 06 / 01 45 64 61 57 www.fondationppr.org To download the press release (pdf, 140Ko)
