For Kering's Women in Motion Talk on Tuesday March 27th, 2018 held during the first edition of the Rencontres 7e Art Lausanne, the actress Rossy de Palma came to share her experiences on the representation of women in cinema, and more widely on the subject of feminist sorority, both on screen and off screen.
For Rossy de Palma "a woman can not be a woman without being a feminist. But beyond the feminism we have grown up with and that is now cracking at the seams, I see the crucial importance, the beauty and the incredible strength of sorority. It is in this sorority, in the time spent with women we love and admire, that we draw our richness, our singularity and a balanced view on things and on ourselves."
She also stressed "the evident need for parity and equal pay, which must finally become a reality: this is urgent. The balance and the equality between women and men are hard to find but we will find them. To achieve this, women must finally be able to look at themselves, and discover and love themselves. They have always focused on others - on everything and everyone, except themselves: today the time has come. The #metoo movement, the recent speaking out and the phenomena that have been set in motion, have all brought us to a new and necessary stage: today, we can start with a blank page. We have pressed the reset button and now we can write our story."
A multi-talented artist, Rossy de Palma is an actress, writer, painter and visual artist who caught the attention of Pedro Almodóvar at the age of 22. Rossy de Palma has collaborated with him throughout her career appearing notably in The Law of Desire (1987), Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1989), Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990), Kika (1993), The Flower of My Secret (1995), Broken Embraces (2008) and Julieta (2016). She spoke during this Talk of her tight bond with this outstanding director who "knows so well how to speak of women, women strong in adversity, full of resilience and endlessly resourceful when confronted with the harshness and violence of life."
Rossy de Palma has also appeared in films by other well-known directors of the 7th art, such as Robert Altman’s Prêt-à-Porter (1994), Karim Dridi’s Hors Jeu (1998), Chantal Lauby’s Leave Your Hands on My Hips (2003), Patrice Leconte’s Do Not Disturb (2014), Mehdi Charef ‘s Graziella (2015) and Amanda Sthers’ Madame (2017).

About Women in Motion, a Kering initiative
Women in Motion's ambition is to highlight the contribution of women to the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera. Launched in May 2015 by Kering in partnership with the Festival de Cannes, Women in Motion is an integral part of the Festival's official program, and is active around the world through a variety of events. This initiative is based on two fundamental actions: its Talks, which are open to journalists and film professionals, enable leading personalities to compare their experiences and views on the issue of women's contribution to cinema, and also to share their recommendations for the advancement of women’s representation in the industry. The Women in Motion Awards, two awards given each year, one to an inspirational figure who embodies the values of the program, and another to a promising name in cinema who also receives financial support for future film projects.
